ALAMO HEIGHTS MULES BUCK TRADITION, SELECT COOLER ECOTHERM INFILL FOR STADIUM

San Antonio, TX (June 20, 2018) – Alamo Heights Mules will be leading the pack with installation of Hellas Matrix® Turf with Helix Technology, the new EcothermTM infill, and Cushdrain® pad at Harry B. Orem Stadium. The district was looking to make the field cooler and protect players from injuries. Hellas was their top choice.

The district has experienced a successful ten years with Hellas synthetic turf but did their research again when the time came to replace.

AHISD Director of Athletics Jennifer Roland said, “We visited six different fields, looking at different companies. The Georgetown ISD field built by Hellas stood out.”

Officials experienced the Matrix Helix turf and Cushdrain pad at the Georgetown Athletic Complex. Matrix Helix is turf the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, and Miami Dolphins use.

“The coaches really liked the look and feel of the field. It was a good balance, not too soft and not too hard,” said Roland. “We especially liked that the Cushdrain pad protects the integrity of the field and provides extra protection for athletes.”

District officials also selected Hellas’ new Ecotherm infill over the traditionally-selected black crumb rubber that is widely used throughout the country. Ecotherm reduces the temperature of the field up to 20 degrees cooler versus a synthetic turf field with black crumb rubber, and no irrigation is required.

“We’re already in a drought in San Antonio, so we didn’t want anything we would have to water. Keeping our kids safe is the priority and worth the extra money,” Roland said. “The students are very excited.”
